Reiki Rant: Why I Don’t Just Send Healing to a Profile Picture

A real look at why intention matters in energy work—because this stuff isn’t a game.

Let’s have a chat about something that’s been on my mind for a while: distance Reiki. More specifically, how it’s sent. Because honestly, I’ve seen some stuff that makes me raise my eyebrows so hard they nearly leave the building.

Here’s the thing—I’ve been working with Reiki for a long time, and I take what I do seriously. When someone books a distance session with me, I don’t just wave my hands in the general direction of the planet and hope it finds you. That’s not how energy works. That’s not how I work.

To send Reiki properly—to you, the actual person who’s requested healing—I need to be able to connect to your energy field. That means I ask for your name, date of birth, and the area where you live. Sometimes people send a photo too, which is totally optional, but it can help strengthen the connection.

This isn’t me being nosy or making you fill out forms for fun. It’s about intention and direction. Energy needs a focus. If I don’t have at least those basic details, I’m basically sending Reiki into the ether and hoping it lands on the right person. And I don’t do “hope for the best” healing. I do targeted, intentional, heart-centred work—and I’ve had very good results with it.

But… let’s talk about what I see online. Because honestly, it makes my blood pressure tick up.

I’m in a few Reiki groups on Facebook. And time and time again, I see someone posting, “Offering free healing today!” Lovely sentiment. But then there’s a stream of “yes please” comments. Thirty people deep, no names, no info, no photos—some even showing as anonymous profiles. And the original poster? They’re commenting “sending” to each one like it’s an Amazon order.

I’m sorry, but I call bull on this.

How exactly are you directing energy to people who gave you nothing to connect with? A username and a generic profile pic of a dog doesn’t cut it. And don’t even get me started on the people replying to Reiki requests with nothing but a 🤲 emoji. What is that supposed to be??

Listen, I believe in the power of Reiki deeply. But I also believe it should be treated with respect. This energy isn’t some vague wave you just chuck out into the void and hope it hits the right person. It's focused. It's intentional. It requires care.

I used to offer a free monthly online healing circle through my website. People could join in by filling out a short form—name, DOB, location. The basics. But you know what? Most people didn’t bother. Because apparently, if it requires the tiniest bit of effort, they’re out. They’d rather comment “me please” on a random Facebook post and hope that someone—who may or may not actually do anything—is somehow sending healing their way.

That’s not Reiki. That’s performance.

So yes, I took the link off my website. Because I’m not here to fake it. And I’m not here to compete with people who want to look saintly but aren’t actually putting any energy into what they claim to be offering.

Rant over. (Sort of.)

If you're looking for real, grounded, focused energy work—the kind that’s sent to you, not to the cosmos at large—you’re in the right place.
